Kentucky No.5 heads to Tennessee No.21 for midweek showdown
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky No.5 volleyball team will travel to Rocky Top Wednesday night for a Southeastern Conference showdown against the Tennessee No.21 Lady Flights at 6 p.m. ET live on ESPNU.
Kentucky and Tennessee sit first and second in the SEC 2021 rankings, with the UK going 8-0 this season in the league and Tennessee going 8-2 this year from the SEC. The Lady Vols have played two more games than the Wildcats in conference, with weekends already scheduled in the UK.
Sam Gore (pxp) and Jennifer Fowler (color) will take the call from Thompson-Boling Arena on Wednesday night for ESPNU.
Kentucky just won a two-game weekend against Arkansas in which the Wildcats won two straight-set games against the Razorbacks inside Memorial Coliseum. At 15-3, Kentucky is currently ranked 5th in the top 25 of the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association poll and is led by Madi Skinner, averaging over 3.8 kills per offensive set.
The Wildcats have won nine straight games, a season high, since September 15. During that span, the UK have won four games in five sets and collected three sweeps.
UK lead the all-time series with Tennessee, 54-30 and have won the last six straight games with the Lady Vols since 2016. Kentucky have won 10 straight sets against Tennessee and the Lady Flights were swept in both. matches there is one season on the opening weekend of the 2020-21 Fall Game.
Tennessee, under fourth-year head coach Eve Rackham-Watt, is 16-4 overall and currently sits 21st in the AVCA poll. The Lady Vols played two games this weekend against LSU, winning in five sets on Saturday night before losing Sunday afternoon in Baton Rouge. Breana Runnels of Tennessee is leading the Lady Vol offense with 3.49 kills per set.
