No. 20 Lady Vols Sweep Aside Auburn, 3-0


KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – The 20th-ranked Tennessee volleyball team swept through Auburn Wednesday night at the Thompson-Boling Arena, beating the Tigers in straight sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-14).

With the victory, Tennessee (11-2, 3-0 SEC) have now swept Auburn (8-4, 0-2 SEC) in three straight games and in four of the last five meetings, dating from October 6, 2019. The sweep is UT’s ninth on the year and the second in a row in the SEC game.

Since the start of the season, the Lady Vols have lost just one set to an unranked opponent – who arrived in the first set against Arkansas on September 25. Since retiring from the first set against the Hogs, UT have won nine sets in a row. .

Senior Lily felts was all over for UT, coming away with 14 kills and adding nine digs to his night. Senior graduate Breana alleys also hit double digits in kills, putting 10 in the win.

Setter Nathalie Hayward notched his seventh double-double of the year and fourth in a row with 37 assists and 14 digs. She also had two victories in the victory of Lady Vol.

Morgahn Fingall had a solid night with nine kills on a .300 kill percentage, five digs and a pair of blocks. Coming off the bench to start sets two and three, Nicole shanahan hit two kills while leading the Orange & White in blocks with three.

Ava bell peaked at 0.636 with seven kills and one block.

Tennessee went through the first set, winning 25-16. The Lady Vols hit .300 in the opening frame while limiting Auburn to a .152 hitting percentage. Felts got off to a good start, recording seven kills and reaching 0.308. The Knoxville native also had four digs to open the game.

The second set was a tighter affair with UT winning 25-21. The score was tied four times in the second and the lead changed hands once. Auburn took a 2-0 lead early on, but the Lady Vols used a 5-0 run to take the lead.

Felts again led UT in eliminations with six, with Runnels totaling five eliminations.

The third set was entirely in Tennessee as he took a 7-0 lead en route to a 25-14 victory in the third set. Fingall led the kills in the set as she scored four of four attempts. Ava bell recorded three kills on four swings in the final frame.

Tennessee returns to the field on Saturday and Sunday as they host Texas A&M in Knoxville for a two-game series. Saturday’s first service is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET, while Sunday’s game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET.
