Pete Davidson not sure whether to return to SNL
When Pete Davidson appeared on Weekend Update for the SNL season finale in May, it looked like the show’s grown-up son could say goodbye. Davidson reinforced this idea a few days later during a round table for Hollywood journalist, where he was asked if he was interested in breaking co-star Kenan Thompson’s 18-season record. “I’m fine,” Davidson said at the time. “I’m ready to hang up the jersey. Something may have changed for Davidson in the month since as he now seems a little less sure about his future at SNL. “For me, I don’t know what the plan is,” Davidson said during a recent interview with Golden Derby, through GE. “It’s kind of on hold right now, depending on the schedule. This is my seventh year, and that’s usually what the contract is for. He went on to suggest it might be time for him to step away from the show, which is entering its 47th season. “It’s a big cast; there’s a lot of new guys in there, and there’s a lot of great new talent that it’s time for them to shine, ”Davidson said. “I have no idea what’s going on right now.”
It is not known if Davidson really does not have an answer regarding his SNL future, or if he reverted to his previous comments as a negotiating tactic. Just last week It has been reported Davidson signed on to star alongside Kaley Cuoco in upcoming romantic comedy Meet cute, his last main role after that of Judd Apatow The King of Staten Island and Hulu comedy Great adolescence. Davidson’s new prominent male status – which seems almost as unlikely as his dating life – may have a little something to do with the uncertainty around his SNL return. And he’s not the only actor rumored to quit the show; the emotional nature of the Season 46 finale has fueled speculation that Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, and Kenan Thompson may also be leaving Studio 8H. So far, Davidson is the only actor to have publicly commented on a potential release.
