The dynasty remains intact. And it may not end anytime soon.

The UNCW men’s tennis team won the school’s eighth conference title in the past 13 years by beating Elon, 4-2, in Sunday’s 2022 CAA Men’s Tennis Championships championship game at the Jimmy Elon’s Powell Tennis Center.

The No. 2-seeded Seahawks, 15-8, won the most important point in doubles, then added three singles wins in their fifth straight league game. UNCW has won the CAA crown in four of the past five seasons and won its ninth NCAA tournament appearance with a convincing win.

Elon, the No. 4 seed, finished the season at 15-9 after becoming the first No. 4 seed since 2015 to reach the final by upsetting No. 1 William & Mary, 4-2, in semi final. The Phoenix were the last team to beat UNCW in the CAA Tournament, edging out the Seahawks, 4-3, in the 2019 title game.

The Seahawks have won 14 of their last 15 CAA Tournament games since 2017. UNCW is 38-26 all-time in the CAA Tournament.

You just don’t see two freshmen come into the conference tournament and achieve the kind of performance they did.
